"Absolutely, the liner protects the borehole. However, many other mechanical problems can occur, such as packer issues, downhole valves on test equipment, etc. My point was one of clarity. If the well has a poor or non-existent flow, you can bet the announcement will flag "mechanical problems" so the potential resource can be booked by both companies, but in reality, it has little value. In relation to the depth of Plover verses porosity, Shell has some great information on this matter. There is a direct relationship between depth and poor porosity with this sand unit. A comment was noted in a response to my note that stated Ichthys was only 500m shallower. In fact, the top of Ichthys porosity and gas column is less than 3900m, so it falls into the Shell acceptance window. It appears to me that a big chunk of the Karoon discovery is over 5000m. Further, if you have CO2 in the gas, the cementation is compounded by the associated fluid flows. All I point to is caution!
