That's what has been going on here for the last 24-48 hours. The cat brought in what we thought was a rat, although they both move so fast we can't be sure it's not some other marsupial. So periodically ,at any hour, the chase is resumed at jet-propelled speed. Last night it went on, over beds & furniture, curtain rails, wherever. Wssshh! Now you see them, now you don't. Catch the rat? If the cat can't catch it how can I? Although I don't think she really wants to catch it.
