Had a chat with someone who knows a little bit about arbitration for their thoughts on AVZ's situation and arbitration in general.

    They said:

    • Arbitration cases are generally shorter
    • One of the benefits of Arbitration is that anything that surfaces during discovery remains confidential and not published to the public. As opposed to legal cases, lets say, within the DRC, then a bunch of private documents could be published for all to see.
    • Generally, not always but most of the time, you don't want to ignore arbitration requests
    • Once the arbitration judgement is made the winning party can take the judgement to almost any country where the defending party has assets to and submit a claim to those courts
    • One of the only ways that a country would deny the claim once the judgement has been made is if the defending party could show malpractice within the arbitration judgement
    • Arbitration is quite expensive
    • Arbitration is generally seen as highly unlikely to be compromised, not impossible but very unlikely
    • Zijin would likely be requesting an arbitrator they believe would rule in favor of them
    • It's common to select arbitrators from various backgrounds, e.g., one that knows about mining
    • If the parties cant agree on the choice of arbitrators there is a process where arbitrators are selected for them

Make of this what you will, the person isn't an arbitration guru by any means. Just a smart lawyer. Some of the above may be wrong or misunderstood by my lay self.
