dear JoJo - @Joannie - we can differ, but still be friends?
It seems politics throws up all kinds of men - looking back at history, the same principle applies - the biggest 'puffer fish' often make it to the top. Even those espousing ethical values, like Mahatma Gandhi, are not without fault (and his tactics could only work with people like the Brits!! who have a sense of fairness) - but looking at him objectively, he was rather ridiculous and yet he motivated millions.
Napoleon? inspired his nation and yet he led a suicidal mission into Russia, as did Hitler.

... and what about America?! - they have not had very inspiring leaders recently - to me Biden is a disappointment too, he had it in his power to stop this Ukraine business at the very beginning, but probably never even 'got it'.

It often seems to me 'the system' keeps on working because of the many decent human beings in the works who do their duty quietly without much fuss - maybe the secretary in the background who smoothes ruffled feathers when the boss has been rough or tactless etc. should be given credit - maybe in Johnston's case too - (I don't know enough about him).

Collectively we seem to have arrived at a consensus of getting along with each other and other nations, when initially we were deeply tribal and were only capable of accepting into our inner circle - at the most - about 30 to 50 people.

That we can exist within large nations and within large groupings of those nations is some kind of achievement - and it is due to us all, not the politicians.
Let's hope we get some wise politicians now and then.
    Go well
    Taurisk
