underground mining was the mainstay when I was a kid and Snowy Hydro was only around 10 years old when I went through the tunnels there too.

yes wind turbines are responsible for bird kills..... but data I've seen, comparing avian death from wind towers and coal or nuclear generators, show that wind blades kill far less birds than either of the other two forms of generation.

What do you call the massive copper mines or uranium mines or for that matter the mines that will provide lithium and cobalt etc??
