Not sure how you drew that conclusion, but "dwelling" and "learning from' are different in my view. I was referring to consolidations and splits I believe, so your post seems rather strange in that regard. In any case, IMHO the HSV vaccine program was ditched too early as successes had been made, at least in some cases, and the trials had been held, money had already been spent, and sufferers are desperate for even a small chance of a cure. I approached WP at the time and his reply, which was to the effect that other vaccines on the market were equally partially successful was not correct in my view in so far as I made enquiries and couldn't find any that did anything other than ameliorate symptomes once an attack started. I could easily have missed something of course. He also said, and he was correct here, that launching such a drug was in his experience very expensive. I would have preferred, rather than a big shot world wide release, that a release be made in say two or three cities like SFO and Sydney where marketing could be more focused as it was my belief, however mistaken, that we had come a long way and the results were cast aside when other courses of action were available. Sometimes thinking small isn't all bad But then again, not my field so just saying.
