Heard an interesting comment on this type of thing the other day.
Most developed countries in the world have built their wealth especially over the last 100 years and until recently have done this with little or no regard for the environment and worker safety. As countries like Australia have become wealthier fortunately things like the environment and worker safety have also gained far greater importance.
It is however hypocritical of us to now critisize countries who are still in the earlier stages of building their wealth for not putting a higher priority on areas we did not put a high priority on when we were at the same stage.
Of course developed countries should and will put pressure on these developing nations to lift their game in these areas but we should also not forget our not so distant past.
