It would be nice if they would yes agreed.
First port of call would be tagging buy trades as covers at least - there's an infrastructure that already exists for tagging short executions that (surely) can't be that hard to leverage.
Position reporting on a settled basis could also be more detailed, though in both traded and settled bases, there's always the problem of cancelled trades, delayed settlements and other problems with matching/reconciliation. Everything is doable, but position reporting, aggregating and publishing is a lot harder than it sounds.
