I'm confident that Etrade would be fine in this circumstance, Ferretous. I'm very surprised your bid as you described it didn't go straight through to the ASX.
I doubt you'd need a full service broker for this type of transaction.
Etrade might even have different algorithms for different shares - don't know. But as I say, it's extremely rare for me to have a bid not go straight through to be placed in the ASX queue automatically (like in milliseconds).
The only times a bid was knocked back was when I was going away for a few days and put in a sell bid much, much higher than the market price - could have been 100% higher, can't exactly remember the details. (I could have used a conditional Etrade bid instead, which I've done on other occasions.)
