You keep saying that like it has no value. Businesses large and small not having to manage store credit themselves or take the risk is an attractive proposition.
Many businesses simply don't offer a store credit option, and if they do it's a process to obtain it. Online microbusinesses are able to offer BNPL as a payment method with little effort. They get sales they might not ordinarily get. Why is this so hard for you to understand?
Just because the concept existed before in a different, far less convenient form, does not make it an attractive offering. If you don't like it - fine - continue to use your Bankcard (TM) or travellers cheques or whatever it is you use.
