another problem with an ageing popn is the political scew that it creates. It's projected that some 22% of the total popn will be over 65 within 30 or 40 yrs. If you disregard the under 18 non-voters, this would be approaching a huge (maybe a majority?) voter bias in favour of retirees.
Are they (we) going to be voting for policies that reduce our standard of living?? I would suggest No!!
Since the fertility rate is current below popn replacement rate there should be more financial incentive to those of breeding age (and maybe at the expense of retiree subsidies), if immigration rates are to be reduced. But even then, it's probably not enough.
Mines are a finite resource, and at any rate,are being sold off overseas.
