I am somewhat of an optmist in most things and I quite often give people too much credit (especially politicians0) however I would like to hope that the questions we raise have at least been considered and dealt with as a part of our immigration policy.
I don't believe we should have referendums on such issues because we have a system of government where we elect fellow Australians to enforce the majotities views and values. If they don't we throw them out and vote someone else in. I think the last election was a great example of people power over political savvy.
I voted Liberal by the way but the majority said times up Howard and Libs. We don't like what you are doing.
Immigration may well be on the election agenda and the people will get their say. I just hope that we are considerate enough not to simply want to maximise our wealth and well being of existing citizens to the detriment of our fellow man.
Even the AFL has a draft policy through generosity that allows the weak a chance to get off the bottom rung.
