Acer,
I have a different view on a couple of issues you have raised and a question for you;
1)Democracy means that the will of the majority prevails. Our system of running democracy is based on the Westminster Convention and English common law. The heritage of our parliament is the English precident. Hence the Speaker, Usher of the Black Rod, etc.
From time to time the parliamentary system didn't reflect the will of the people and there have been historical revolts. Our system is a means to arrange democracy it is not itself democracy.
In many one party states there is a voting system. Many people voted for Sadam Hussein and Joseph Stalin. Voting doesn't equal democracy if it doesn't deliver the will of the people. In our case we can only vote for Lib/Lab who have the same view but it isn't shared by the people.
2) I think the current immigration level is about 180,000 per year but i would defer to anyone who can show the real number from all catagories.
A lot of people do care about this issue.
3)My question is this; Why do you want immigration, is it;
a) for the good of mankind so that others can benefit from coming to Australia, or;
b) do you think existing Australians are better off because of migration?
