Started this as another thread but pasted it on here..natural resources scarce?How can any poster find what is the "OPTIMUM " for each of our capital cities... Cant believe that argument!! Thank goodness the indigenous people didn't use that argument to prevent our early "settlers"!!Most people on this thread forget that they are second or third generation settlers ...plain and simple..; - Water - A scarce resource - Any guesses on the proportion of water used by industry versus domestic....Increase in the population will only improve efficient per capita consumption ( ATM We are the WORST consumers of water and energy on a global basis -- not my opinion but on record!!)

Wealth Creation - the basic law of physics ... Matter can neither be created nor destroyed ..it only changes form...So the "wealth" that we are creating is what we are digging out of the traditional landowners' properties!! ( IF Land does belong to a person!! )The increase in VALUE or the MONETARY figure increases only when more people want to lay their hands on the pie!!!!

There are two aspects to this thread- one was obviously the natural resources which slowly took on a xenophobic note...everyone wants the benefits of an improved economy without the added crowds ( or the colours!!:) ) let's address the second issue ...two examples come to mind

A family from Country I - husband ,wife two kids - Husband - studied business mgt from UNSW - spent 30000 Aud to get his degree (education sector moves up ) started a takeaway cafe ,employs four staff( service sector moves up) bought a Subaru ( auto sector moves up ) bought a house ( housing sector moves up ) wife works at a bank - won the popular employee of the department ., kids go to the local school - one of them tops the education dept/.s tests ...ranked in the top 5 percentile in the country...soloist at her school choir ...LED the Christmas Carols in a group of 1500 students ( the family is not christian BTW )learns classical piano,netball ( private tutions - service sector moves up) ....U decide if they are a postive contribution to our society...

A family From COUntry C -husband, wife ,two kids - Husband runs a poultry company ...employs 22 staff ...( service sector) have just started a packaged foods business., bought two cars - VOLVO,CAMRY, wife helps him at the office., kids go to a reputed private school...spend nearly 30000AUD a YEAR on education., have a house in a good suburb....No drugs /no alcohol just plain simple hard work from the time they have moved in 10 years ago...They are grateful that they got the opportunity to work hard and establish themselves in this wonderful country


LOOK around ...Smell the roses...spare a thought before you dig into the weekly pizza - If the italians hadn't come in..souvlaki - if the greeks hadn't joined the party...the greasy noodles ...if the chines hadn't come in ( cut down on the oil will ya?!! ) ...before you dig into the butter chicken and garlic naans ... what if the Indians hadn't come in ( u cant get vindaloo thru a call center! )who would make the weekend kebabs if the Turks hadn't moved in?

Worried about the Asians topping school charts and becoming Doctors ? Wont this improve the standard of our Healthcare?? ..Competition In any field ALWAYS IMPROVES the standard of the output ( LOok What happens when we are stuck with only Woolies and COLES :)


All these children consider Australia home and I'm sure in the years to come will be good citizens .. migration isn't necessarily an evil ...How can anyone....ANyOne determine the exact number or even an ideal number of people who can live on a piece of land ...It is as exact a science as the now infamous ETS helping to cut emmissions by 2%...


As long as we forget that we are but a.. tiny part of humanity we will always remain in our closed shells and grow apart ...from one another and from our selves...no wonder we see such high levels of disassociation ( does this word exist??:) )and dissatisfaction with our lives ...the common code that runs thru the oldtimers tales are the ones of sharing and compassion...either DAVE R speaking about leaving houses unlocked in the good old days without fear of crime or CLUB SHARER speaking about learning to live with our grand parents at home ....if we continue down a path of chasing the PIPEDREAM of a better and much better quality of life ...our mansions will only grow bigger but no one to share them with,the lawns will grow greener but no one to sit and have a cuppa with...the TVs grow larger and less people to go and have a run in the park with... only increasing levels of crime,depression ,divorce,drugs ,alcohol fuelled violence and all the GOOD things that living in a improved Resource filled world will bring!!!

JUst my 2C worth people ...wish U all a Happy Australia DAY ...remember ...A genuine SMILE anywhere... ANYWHERE in the world will always get a smile in return ...we are many but we are one!!! rgds
