Ace,
Exploration wells are exactly that. They are small (relatively) holes drilled into the ground to gain a better understanding of what is underneath. Even if gas is found, they are not going to be used to extract it.
proper wells will be used for the extraction. Eventually all exploration wells are "plugged and abandoned"
