One thing I did not factor in was the cost of other staff, buildings, marketing etc. There would be additional developer time for the various mobile phones that are out there.

I had a look at smarttrans other software and it is the least complicated of their offerings. So considering what they are making from their other packages (posts from fluffynymph) then this all comes down to how much they are going to get paid for each download and what those projected number of downloads will be

On the plus side. Supporting many mobile platforms is a very difficult job, there are many mobile operating systems to support and many languages to program in as well, so the download royalties may in fact be very generous as an incentive to support as many mobiles as possible.
