"The meters, which record energy use every half hour and can be read remotely rather than manually, will be in all households by 2013. The Government insists they offer eventual savings and benefits by giving families more control over energy use and bills."
What a load of rubbish! why will knowing how much electricity is used each half our give families more control over their energy bills? And whats more all families would need to have a computer and need to use their internet download limits to see the meter readings.
I think the Victorian government sold the meter reading business off for about $8m quite some time ago. The purchasers would have had a plan to reduce the cost of reading the meters and make lots of lovely dosh. If the meter company can sit in its office and have the meters send their data to a computer they should be able to reap large cost savings on having meter readers wondering about.
So why are we the Victorian public now being asked to pay for meters that will provide cost savings to the meter reading company?
By the way I have had a smart meter for about three years. It is so smart in fact, that AGL could not provide me with meter reading for over twelve months.
The Victorian government has slowly privatized the utility companies and the roads so that we pay as we go without any reduction in the state taxes. Soon they will probably want to privatize the police force and we will pay a fee each time we need their assistance.
What do we need these bloated state governments for???
