"Solar thermal power with storage will soon be cheaper than new coal-fired power stations according to US Department of Energy projections".
Hmm, there are a couple of technical questions about that.
1. Storage of electricity in sufficient quantity to provide any kind of heating power, eg. like a domestic stove, is a very long way off. Heavy duty storage to meet that kind of demand has not yet been invented. Its the holy grail.
2. No matter how much solar or other renewable is provided, the base load stations are still needed. And since they can't be started at will, they still have to run all the time.
