"Scientists warn of nitrogen pollution risks
Changes in the nitrogen cycle caused by human activities urgently need more attention from researchers and policymakers, according to an international group of scientists.
The researchers are calling for a global assessment of the state of the nitrogen cycle, and how this is affecting the climate. Some of human nitrogen emissions are converted by bacteria into nitrous oxide, which is a potent greenhouse gas.

A session at Copenhagen yesterday, organised by the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI), highlighted nitrogen's role in climate change - a topic that has received comparatively little attention so far, partly because of the overwhelming focus on carbon emissions among the media and policy-makers."
