It's outrageous if you are an individual who pays for your own prescriptions. Very few people do.
Example: a decade ago as an adolescent I had bad acne. Doctor prescribed cheap medicines (mainly antibiotics) that did almost nothing. So then we went with Accutane, a controversial drug put out by Roche. I was on it for 6 months and it cost $3,000 per month. Got rid of the acne permanently.
I made about $5k a year at the time (odd jobs/part time). I couldn't afford it. Parents are middle class and they definitely couldn't afford it. But they had insurance, so we paid just the copay ($10 per refill, or $20 a month). I got my drugs. Roche got $18,000. Everyone's happy but the insurance company.
So, moral of the story: $2,000/every other month would be a problem for the individual consumer without coverage. But definitely NOT a problem for the other 75% of the population. I think 1,500 euros is the perfect pricepoint. And these patients will be taking this drug in perpetuum.
500 patients x 1,500 euros x forever... pretty soon we'll be talking about real money.
