"disharmony" is addressed by encouraging the community to accept differences in cultural and lifestyle. we have a very successful multi-cultural community since Menzies began rebuilding the economy in the post war period. its been a tough battle against intolerance and rejection of immigrants.... there remain a small cohort of people who reject immigration but, imo, most people accept difference as a fact of life. so what's your problem? of course there's expense in immigration..... but most immigrants develop their own businesses and are found by employers to be good, productive workers (lacking the ethos of bludging on employers as the old habits dictate - I was asked to resign from two different jobs because I worked harder than my colleagues). those expenses were relative to the times and always present. the achievements of immigrants, and the employment of people to support immigration, are to actually increase productivity and business profits. the overall equation is cash flow +ve according to Whitlam, Fraser, Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Abbott and Turnbull. Morrison has a greater reluctance against immigration by his actions. Gillard made no significant comments or policies wrt immigration.

Productivity growth has slumped in Australia in line with the ramping up of immigration 15 or so years ago. Why would business bother looking for better ways of doing things when there is an endless supply of migrants driving down wages and conditions? Also congestion from the ever growing population is a cost to business. .
