for more than 5 years prior to Howard's Big Aus policy, which established much of the immigration complaints you raise, there was a serious debate wrt the ability of our falling organic population growth to provide adequate taxation revenue to cover the costs of our necessary budgets. this was a repeat of the falling birth rate that inspired the compulsory superannuation debate under Keating.

Aus will NEED to increase immigration again eventually. our economy can't last long without increasing our taxpayer base.
