My understanding is that you are spot on. The Indonesian production of nickel matte is from laterite and a very 'dirty' product. 'Mr. BigShot' as you aptly named him thought that price was going to be all that mattered, hence his big short. Nickel spot price over $100 would have cost him plenty. If you want to lose a bunch of market share start sticking dirty batteries in your electric cars. Your competitors will eat you alive.
