Xiao made an interesting slip in answering one of the journo's questions.... instead of saying that Taiwan is a part of China, he was addressing the historical escape from mainland China of Chiang Kai-shek, former leader of the Nationalist Gov of China forced to retreat to Taiwan by the Maoist forces in '49.

this is a slip which justifies recognition of Taiwan as a separate state to mainland China. So Taiwan is truly the original Republic of China, as China was known before Communist Maoist rule, while mainland is truly the Peoples' Republic of China - a different country.

but you're right, it won't make a damn bit of difference, no negotiation, no compromise, the RoC belongs to the PRoC and the CCP is it ruler according to Xiao.
