I think the most promising idea for solar on cars at the moment is something like a DSC glass sunroof that powers either a fan or light AC when the car is otherwise switched off and sitting in the sun.

That is the sort of thing Hyundai were looking at, and I can see it as a good selling point on a luxury BMW/Audi.
