The distance to the moon is known, as are the radiation levels of the Van Allen Belts, and the solar wind radiation levels.
NASA is in with a whole bunch of "other" military agencies. Money and staff flow fairly freely among them. One day someone may work for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the next week NASA, next the NSA, then CIA, then some division of the USN, then DARPA, then NASA and the Air Force again, ..., it is all interchangeable. Spooky as a Halloween Party! :-D
Not that long ago there was a fair amount of joint cooperation with the Russians, Chinese, Indians, Germans, and French as well.
I fear the lies about space exploration are going to come back and bite us all big time. Many things governments said did happen, didn't. Conversely, many things happened and were discovered that no one is allowed to talk about and governments won't mention them.
The vast majority of people, if they were exposed to the truth, would almost instantly go into "Critical Incident Shock".
