Whether we like it or not, shorting stock is big business and as such these organizations have resources and information way beyond what we as retail investors could imagine.

MSB's stock price will rise on positive news coming out of the FDA. It will not rise as a result of any short squeeze. They simply have strategies and ways to avoid this (In most circumstances).

If you look at the events over the last 3 years, it shows they are always one step ahead. (Although they did nearly get caught by the ODAC vote).

Any significant change, either positive or negative, can be tied to a major announcement. (The exception is Jan 22, which looks on face value like a reporting aberration).

The question now is, what is the cause of the ;latest significant drop in Shorts.

The most recent private placement, in my mind is somehow linked to this exit, allowing them an orderly exit. I have no frim evidence of this and is just my own theory, so please do not take anything I have written as investment advice.
