Qantas has sacked 10,000 people since COVID-19
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce says the airline has let go a total of 10,000 people since the start of the pandemic.
“We had to make some tough decisions to get the company to survive the pandemic, and to get to a stage where we could rebuild,” Joyce said.
He conceded that the redundancies weren’t fair, pointing to Qantas’s redundancy payments that have exceeded $1 billion.
He said the company is now recruiting crew for its Airbus A380 airliners.
