If there's no traffic behind you, do what Abbott's driver did. If there's traffic behind you, particularly road trains, just pull over to the left of the road before you get to the point where you want to turn right....wait for a break in the traffic situation where you're not going to cause potential danger, and then move back on to the road and turn right so that you don't cause a dangerous situation.
Fact is, there are many roads like that around that are potentially very dangerous, regardless of road rules....and regardless of anything Peter Garrett might have done!!....lol
