You are right. But there is also a lot of benefits from keeping shareholders (those people who own a share of the company, and are contributing to salaries) plus the market informed and updated on progress. Intra-day SP fluctuations are nothing. A billion dollar wipe of company value, partly due to an own goal and then information vacuum and then missed publicised timeliness, is kinda important
