I've seen a few of those happy slaves today. I made a contribution to their slavery as i paid for my Chinese Honey King Prawns. I made a contribution to their double time pay rate for working on a Sunday. I didn't see any whips or chains either.
As someone who started work at 9, delivering milk in a horse and cart before and after school and 7 days a week, I was happy to end up with a few pence to get the odd treat and get to the "pictures" on a Saturday night. Then leaving school for a full time job at15. Being paid twenty seven and sixpence for a five and a half day week with my mother getting the pound and I had the seven and six was acceptable.
Later on I farmed which was seven days a week and few holidays. Then ran my own businesses where i was on the job well before the paid staff and long after they left was acceptable.
Now I wonder who is/was really the slave. Is it the employer or the employee.
