oh yeah corporal punishment - them were the days....
my school had alot of elderly male teachers , many ex-WW2 servicemen (yes we were still doing parade ground drill in the early 80's!). Stern disciplinarians, but hopeless teachers- the ravages of their years were telling, and they used to cop it badly from the kids. Many were very keen on the cane. One was an ex_RAF Spitfire pilot, shot down during the Battle of Britain and had a badly burnt face. He held so much respect from class - an 'officer and a gentleman' and a disciplinarian. Very sad to see that generation slowly disappearing.
