These threads, even more-so nowadays (that is, 5-10 years past) are increasingly drawing my interest from afar.
Why from afar?
Well, I have been a contributing member of HC since 1998....and more than once have commented on the perishing fabric of Australian society and community. Not from only one vantage point, i.e the small valley town in NSW where I grew up, but from many a varied city/town throughout the country where I had the luck/opportunity to be employed/study from my late teens to early 30's.
Back in the early 2000's I would quite often get, "You are Un-Australian K....pack your bags and get out if you do not like it!!", and stuff like, "Get out you un-patriotic pig".
While I am in a state of despair to see that my worst fears are increasingly becoming reality, I must say that I personally am very happy to say that I took the advice of those who suggested that I pack my bags and leave all those years ago.....and now live in real communities and societies where I and my friends and family truly feel safe.
