Look at support and resistance combined with volume and back date your trend lines both vertical and horizontal and try to work it out from there."

I must disagree with the first sentence I'm afraid News. We all know how much I love TA but I think it is wise to maintain an "overall" view of current economic conditions, and have some fundamental knowledge of the major sectors. I don't trade this specific information but it has kept me out of harms way a few times by helping identify upcoming events that might make the markets do weird things.

To keep an overall "fundamental view" I read the business section of a few newspapers religiously and read a few of the big business news web sites. I never trade any ideas from this reading but it has helped with long term market direction and figuring out the current "mood" of the market.
