Heap leaching is as the name suggests is when a leaching solution (typically cyanide) is poured over a pile of crushed ore. The cyanide binds with the gold separating it from the substrate. This solution then goes through a gold recovery process using activated carbon and zinc to remove the gold from the cyanide (to be reused).
Typically this process is used for lower grade ore as it is lower cost intensive and a valuable way to increase gold output. Tietto’s plan is to use it to process the APG resource and increase gold production early in the project.
