"The death of all the fingerlings is disappointing and interesting. According to the report it seems that the last of the fish were feeding up until they died. From this I assume that the fish were not stressed, as stressed/sick animals tend to lose appetite (generalisation on my behalf)."

There are many reasons why fingerlings can start dying:
    Water quality:
includes temp, PH alkanlity, salinity, nitrogen level and type of nitrogen (comes from food, wastes, worse in high temperatures) inlet (quality) and exchange rates etc.

    Feed quality:
    Age, nutrition, contamination

You may find that they are fine with only a few sick ones dying over time. This is normal. If they all died quickly over a few days then there is a real problem. Info is needed on the mortality rates to get a better picture.

38days is a pretty old fingerling.

"The continued courting behaviour is promising - this suggests to me they have the spawning pretty well sussed."

Correct as this is an exact science to make conducive conditions.

All the best to holders, looking with interest.
