I had about 30k when I started my smsf - my catalyst was although the market had improved by 10% that year my fund balance stayed the same after fees and commissions. My A/C suggested starting a smsf since I was so unhappy.
haven’t looked back ( had a few years of terrible investment decisions- but hey it’s my money ) and it now includes children and grandchild
