His view ( and he was a top 10 cadre before arrest) was the Communist Party would become increasingly corrupt( which it is) and invoke nationalism ( which it is doing)to maintain its power. Thats an old trick corrupt political leaders use to make their population believe the enemy is outside rather than within.

DO they learn about the tens of millions who died during these periods.
