You raise an interesting question for me, as in... per ounce, have open pit costs gone up more, or U/G?
My initial thought is you are correct, as wages have sky rocketed, and U/G mining is much more labor intensive, so.....
Yet, I would love to hear the thoughts of others (we have a few miners on HC) plus others with industry experience (not saying you don't).
Fuel prices have increased too, which more more likely effect open pit mining to though.
For what it's worth, I have seen more open pit mining get closed/put on hiatus, versus U/G operations. In fact, the likes of RMS/WGX/SLR have all chosen to either ramp up U/G operations, or minimize higher cost U/G ops, and expand production for others already in production U/G ops.
Have not really seen this sort of discussion anywhere on HC to be honest, though I hardly follow every gold stock, let alone resource stocks!
