neither did I cappie.... but the governance of our nation, while you and I have been alive, has done so. and we voted for a system that oppresses, regardless of our ignorance, Aboriginal people, the first Aussies.
we are here by accident of birth, we are white because of the same. We are Not Aboriginal in the definition, we are not original Australians - purely by accident of birth. regardless we should empathise with first Aussies just as we should empathise with interlocutors to understand what others are saying here on HC. if we can't empathise we will fail to understand.
Empathy provides insights that those who don't empathise miss entirely. it helps us to understand problem areas so much better and be better able to understand the dynamics of, for eg. the Voice, and how it might help first Aussies to gain some modicum of self-respect...... and this, in itself, will help some to find a way out of the Plato's Cave they have been locked into for generations since we whites have come here.
and no, I'm not suggesting sympathy - for those who don't understand what empathy is ......
