the first bit ...humans are powerful in science and tewchnology and yes a good chance .... unless something strikes so quick and so hard that time is against us and we can't jig the technology quickly enough .

the second bit ... full on nuclear war ...as far as I understand it the radiation would get us all , and all mamals and most animalls ... unless some weirdo's have silos underground , huge food stores , recycling facilities etc .
No biologist though so could be wrong ... wouldn't like to bet on that though .

You know these H bombs by the way , same reaction as the sun ... we're 150 mill miles away , about two thirds of the suns radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere ...... but even then you really feel it on a sunny day .
Some furnace to get sunburnt from it with atmosphere sunscreen and at that distance .
