It isn't the Li+ that exists in the batteries, it is the other chemicals that are used to make them. Dihydrogen monoxide is a main ingredient in the electrolyte and is incredibly dangerous. Causes death if ingested, found in many tumours in cancer patients, can cause severe burns and a major component in acid rain. IMO it is this chemical that we need to look to regulate.
