If I have forgotten a regular poster, please forgive - you can give me a virtual spanking eek.pngsmile.png

I only signed on again, because I realised, after a bit of piano practice today that - when young - I used to sing a lot - together with my husband who had some basic 'guitar strumming' skills -picked up just from listening - finding the odd guitar on his mountain wanderings, where - then - every hut had a guitar on the wall and a large communal sleeping chamber with mattresses next to one another - room for a half dozen sleepers, or more if you were prepared to share . . . . I did it once, it was fun. AND before you get ideas, it was all prim and proper

But I realised even though I do know a lot of Australian folk songs, I can only play a couple on the piano - Waltzing Mathilda is one of them -
Click go the shears' another one - a few English ones (in Dublin's fair City . . . and Greensleeves and 'when Johnnie comes riding home again -
and the New Zealand national song - and I want to learn a few more -

Please let me know which songs you are able to sing - not your favourite records, but songs you are familiar with from your childhood and maybe the ones you hum now and then. even if not folk songs in the strict sense of the word -

I knew one or three English/American songs from my schooldays, one was 'My bonny lies over the ocean' - the other one was 'Sixteen tons' and something: . . . .near Mexico Way and also - I just remembered the Prairie song: something about a farm - and, of course 'Ghost riders (in German) -

my very favourite Aussie '(National) song is now 'We are one and we are many' - its meaningful to me, because I am a newcomer.

I know 'I've got to learn 'Mamma Mia' and also ''l'Italiano"

So lets hear your favourites, please - just names, no links - (there is a music thread, btw.)

    Taurisk
