This is not true at all and you seem to be writing from just your own experience. SMSFs with a balance of $200k (which is the minimum balance that ASIC and most professionals recommend) have very comparable investment returns as APRA funds. Have a read at the link below. Yes SMSFs are not for everyone. It requires knowledge of investment markets and time to manage investments. Not financial advice.
