Did your wife have a good job before the kids came along?
If so maybe you could think about swapping roles once the youngest is a little more mobile. I did this for a couple of years when our kids were young ( 2 & 4 ), and look back on those years as amongst the best of my life.
My wife got a new lease on life and I got a new perspective!
15 years on it sure worked for me.
