SpiderZ,
Yup, you a correct on a few things.
I am ex-south african recently investing there after years of trying to get my assets out.
I worked as an engineer in the KKO area of the industrial/mining heartland, so I know it well.
Secondly, the state monopoly power company, Escom, has been run into the ground through ANC corruption, nepotism and incompetence.
They have a serious power problem, with almost continual rolling blackouts, and there is no chance Escom can be revived - it is just too broken.
The only foreign aid they will get to sort out the power fiasco is non-coal and the ruling cabal are beginning to realize gas and independant power is the place to be.
Expect a flood on independent power producers and interest in gas sources from anywhere - Mozambique, offshore in the cape, onshore GSG.
Hopefully KKO will ride the wave as an early mover.
