It's interesting to see all the hopeful tea leaf reading above.

What happened last night was an absolute fiasco and will hasten the end of Liz Truss as PM.
When she goes Rees-Mogg, will be kicked out to the back benches and nobody will attempt to revive fracking again. It is too politically toxic.

If by some weird circumstance she survives, she has blown a massive amount of political capital on something that is clearly very unpopular even with her own MPs. She won't / can't risk that again.

So here we are. The moratorium is de facto back in place while they try to have a consultation on what consultation should mean. That should take them a while. We'll probably have burned though 3 more chancellors and at least one more PM by then. When they've worked though that tangled web then they have to ask people what they want.

Given that in a recent poll only 17% of people (and less than 1/3 of Tory voters) wanted a fracking well within a mile of their homes even if they were given 50% off their electric bill I think we can all see how this ends now. The only questions now are how long it will take them and will they get around to it before the next election when Labour will ban fracking anyway.

I know you don't want to hear this but it is the reality of the situation.
