FLOOD ADVICE FOR COOPER AND WARBURTON CREEKS Issued at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, 10 March 2010
1. FLOOD ADVICE : COOPER CREEK SYSTEM The Cooper Creek at Nappa Merri, Qld, has reached moderate flood levels with a height of 6.3 metres recorded at 9 am on Wednesday 10th March. The river is rising and levels are expected to exceed 7 metres later this week. It is possible the level may reach 8 metres in the next 10 days. Levels at Nappa Merri have not exceeded 7 metres since May 1990.
A level of 6.4 metres was recorded at Cullyamurra Waterhole at 7 am on Wednesday the 10th of March. Local sources estimated the level at the Innamincka causeway to be 6.8 metres at around 9 am Wednesday morning.
It is expected that the water level in Cooper Creek at the Innamincka causeway will rise above 9 metres by the weekend [13th/14th March] with the possibility of the level peaking above 10 metres in the next 10 to 12 days. These levels will result in flows in the Strzelecki Creek.
