I have held PLS for many years, but mainly posted on GXY/AKE. PLS was a two trade every second day company where as GXY was heavy trading every day - so I posted heavily on the GXY/AKE forums. Gradually over time I realised I was making more money trading PLS than AKE and that the latter was a lot of work because I had to do many small trades over a wide spread to get the volume up, whereas PLS required only a couple of trades and I was making 10 to 20k every second day just setting trades at the edges of the channel. Gradually I was mainly trading PLS and doing small trades in AKE, but still doing commentary on the AKE forums (often about PLS - because they were tightly coupled and I would cover both at once in each post). I decided that that was kind of unfair. I was making most of my money on PLS but not sharing with the PLS HC community unless they were also AKE shareholders. So recently I switched to posting on PLS rather than AKE and reduced my AKE holding down to a small holding level and moved most of the trading cash across to PLS (and more recently a bit into NMT).

Why PLS? Doing what I do is really quite high risk. I move a large amount of cash through the company on a daily basis and I live on the profits. I simply can't afford to make a lot of mistakes or I am out of the game. I need a company that is large, well managed, popular (high share volume), volatile, very unlikely to fall over in the blink of an eye and yet has very strong long term prospects for growth (so the trend is predominantly upwards). There aren't that many companies that fit that description. PLS does.

Lastly, I have to be able to learn their business and understand what they do and how they make money, which often means a narrow business focus and a thin executive depth - again PLS. There are other requirements, which PLS doesn't necessarily have but those are enough to make it work. It has taken me a long time to get to where I can predict how much I will make or lose with reasonable (say 80%) accuracy, and that knowledge depends in part on knowing a company's share movement behaviour really well. It takes many months studying a company to get it to the level I will trade it, and years to get to the level I have with PLS.

I can only go long, not short (moral constraint and broker constraint), so I can only bet on one side of the transaction.

I have a major soft spot for PLS. It feeds, houses and educates my family.
