Coal prices, which surged earlier this year due to Russia-Ukraine trade disruptions and shortages in China, have declined in recent weeks due to a large increase in domestic coal production in China. This has reduced Chinese imports and freed up more supply to other regions, said Rystad. The API2 front-month benchmark for European hard coal prices has dropped more than 30 per cent since the start of September.
